River Kwai

Thailand Bike, Boat and Beach

The River Kwai, the first inland cruise ship in Thailand, was a newly built colonial style river cruiser specifically commissioned for sailing on the narrow and curvy Kwai Noi River. Elongated and with a shallow draft, the ship carries a maximum of 20 passengers in 10 comfortable cabins located on the main deck of the ship. Original Burmese teakwood accents that run throughout the vessel’s interiors, including all cabins, lend the River Kwai a special warmth and luxurious air.

One nights hotel accommodation in Bangkok. Transfer to Kanchanaburi where you will spend the morning cycling before board the River Kwai ship.

Day 1: Bangkok

Meet at the Nouvo City Hotel in Bangkok at 3pm. Settle into your room before joining your first bike ride around this vibrant and pulsating city. You will cross the Chao Phraya River by ferry with a nice sunset view, and saddle up your bikes and cycle the back roads to Wat Arun. This Temple of the Dawn is extra special at night, with small lights illuminating its tall spires and no crowds of tourists that clog the site during the day. You will also visit the famous flower market and perhaps stop to sample some Thai street food. You will also visit Wat Pho, for a wander around its impressive mosaics. Dinner included tonight.

Day 2: Cycle to Kanchanaburi

This morning you will explore this interesting town known for the infamous Death Railway to Burma from World War II, It is also home to the Erawan National Park with its glistening waterfalls and significant Buddhist temples. Your cycle route today takes you along the river where you will stop at the war cemetery. The rest of your cycle route today takes you through tranquil farm land where sugarcane, rice and asparagus is harvested. After enjoying a tasty Thai lunch, you will board the River Kwai river cruiser for the first part of your boat adventure. (35 - 55km cycling)

Day 3: Cycle Ban Kao

Start the day with cycling through the narrow roads that turn to dirt track as we pedal deeper into the forest. Towards the end of the end of the day cycle across an epic suspension bridge back to the main roads before a transfer to Hellfire Pass for a museum visit and walk along the ominous pass. Transfer to Nam Tok train station, the modern day end of the train line that used to stretch all the way to Myanmar. Here you can enjoy a ride on the Death Railway and experience a piece of WWII history for yourself. After crossing the trestle bridge at Krasae Cave, transfer back to the ship. (30 - 50km cycling)

Day 4: Cycle Mae Nam Noi

Today you will mount your bike and wend you way around country lanes that wind their way around farmland and villages. After an uphill cycle, enjoy the descent back towards the river where you will visit the Angkor era ruins at Muang Sing. This region marks the furthest point west that the great Khmer Empire once spread. Ride for a further 15 kilometres before enjoying a late lunch and transfer back towards the boat. Enjoy dinner aboard this remarkable colonial style river cruiser.
