Ortelius

The ice-strengthened 'Ortelius' vessel has been cleverly refurbished to provide Polar expedition cruises in the Artic and Antarctica. Travellers have the opportunity to explore remote locations including Franz Josef Land and the Ross Sea, and observe an abundance of wildlife. The vessel can accommodate up to 100 passengers offering comfortable cabins, two restaurants, a bar/lecture room and sauna. Voyages on the Ortelius provide quality exploratory wildlife programs, spending as much time as possible ashore.

Info

Experience Antarctica onboard Ortelius, a vessel built in Gdynia, Poland in 1989 for the Russian Academy of Science. The vessel offers a comfortable environment with individual porthole passenger rooms, two restaurants, a bar, and sauna. Ortelius is suitable to navigate in one-year sea ice and multi-year packed ice making the vessel almost indestructible. Onboard, the vessel is fully equipped with 20 experienced nautical crew, 19 hotel crew, six expedition staff, and one doctor ready to assist passengers at moment’s notice.

Passengers have the opportunity of a lifetime to explore the most remote locations such as Franz Josef Land and the Ross Sea! The voyages are focused on quality exploratory wildlife programs, therefore passengers spend ample time ashore. With maximum capacity of passengers at 106, there is the benefit of having flexibility with the wildlife adventures. To participate, it is recommended that you are in good health to where you can walk several hours per day.
