AmaDouro - Enticing Douro

Discover the rich history of Portugal and Spain as you journey through the Douro River Valley aboard the deluxe Amadouro cruise ship, the newest ship cruising the Douro River. Enjoy a glass of Port wine as you mingle with new friends in the spacious Panoramic Lounge or relax on the Sun Deck as the ship sails past beautiful vineyards on the hillsides of the Douro River.

Embark the ship in Porto.

Day 1: Porto

Board the AmaDouro in Porto this afternoon. Take some time to settle into your accommodation before joining your fellow guests for a Welcome Dinner on board.

Day 2: Porto - Régua

Spend a leisurely morning cruising along the picturesque Douro River as you sail to Régua, renowned for its spectacular scenery. After arriving, enjoy a visit to the Baroque-style Palacio de Mateus and its gardens, located in the lovely Trás-os-Montes region. Inside the house, you’ll see interesting furnishings, paintings and a ceiling of intricately carved wood. The gardens here are considered some of the most beautiful in Portugal.

Day 3: Régua - Barca D'Alva

Today you will spend some time soaking up the beauty of the Douro River as you cruise to Barca d’Alva and visit Castelo Rodrigo, a small fortified village perched high on a hilltop with centuries-old walls, steep narrow streets and fantastic views. You can also opt to hike up to the village should you wish a more active exploration. While here, taste some delicious locally grown produce.

Day 4: Salamanca - Vega de Terrón

Disembark this morning for the drive to Salamanca where you will enjoy a full day tour. Salamanca is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated at the centre of the "Castilla y León" region of Spain. During your guided tour you will see the University buildings, the House of Shells and the Plaza Mayor. You can also enjoy a traditional Flamenco show in Salamanca.

Day 5: Vega de Terrón - Pinhão

This morning exclusive lunch at Quinta da Avessada, where you’ll enjoy an authentic and traditional dining experience complete with entertainment. Some of the family members play in a band, and while dining, they will entertain you. Quinta de Avessada is also a fascinating interactive museum commemorating the history and culture of wine in the Alto Douro region, so you’ll have fun discovering all the various stages of wine production as well as doing plenty of tasting. Continue to Quinta do Seixo, producers of some of the most traditionally made wine in the Douro region. An expert from the Sandeman Winery will take you on a tasting and private tour of the wine cellars, teaching you about the centuries-old winemaking methods.

Day 6: Régua - Entre-Os-Rios

Today's port of call is Régua where you will join a morning excursion to the Mateus Palace and Gardens, located in the picturesque region of Trás-os-Montes just outside Vila Real. Later, we wander through the Quinta de Aveleda’s beautiful gardens and estate. Known as one of the best wine producing estates in the Vinho Verde region, we will treat you to a wine and cheese pairing here.

Day 7: Porto

This morning's tour of Porto introduces you to 16th-century arcaded buildings, Baroque churches and the Sao Bento Railway Station, renowned for its magnificent blue and white tile panels depicting scenes in Portuguese history. You will also enjoy a tasting of port wine at Graham’s Winery. Prefer to get more active, you can hike to Graham’s Winery, offering magnificent views over the Douro River. Later in the day, take a short journey to a nearby coastal town for the “Tastes of Matosinhos” tour where you’ll visit a traditional restaurant serving Pataniscas, a traditional Portuguese cod fish cake, and other typical regional snacks.
