Patagonia Tourist Guide

Patagonia is the geographical region at the southern tip of South America, extending from the Rio Colorado to the Strait of Magellan, and from the Andes mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. It?s a region of extraordinary natural beauty with volcanic mountains, crystal clear lakes and in the south, majestic glaciers of blue-tinted ice. Here you will find some the most stunning landscapes imaginable.

The Rio Futaleufú river is one of the waterways that link the lakes of Argentina and Chile through deep Andean valleys, passing through the cities of Futaleufú and Puerto Piedras. The lakeside town of Puerto Varas sits in the shadow of the magnificent conical snow-covered volcano Volcan Osorno. East of the Andes, the Patagonian plateau and lowlands are cut by long rivers that flow down from the mountains towards the Atlantic Ocean.

In the foothills of the Andes is the first national park to be established in Argentina, the Nahuel Huapi National Park. The area has so many lakes that it's become known as Argentina's Lake District. The main town, Bariloche, is rapidly developing as a year-round resort with skiing on the mountain slopes in winter and lake-side sun worship and water sports in the summer.

Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world, nestled between a picturesque harbor and the majestic Andes. From here you can cruise the Magdalena Channel and view the ice formations in Chico Inlet and the massive Piloto and Nena glaciers, where you can spot penguins, dolphions and Andean Condors. You might sail through the famous Beagle Channel and around Cape Horn where the Atlantic and Pacific converge. A shore excursion could include the Tierra del Fuego National Park, and the beautiful Wulaia Bay where you can walk through ancient forests.
