Italy Tourist Guide

Italy

A cruise in Italy offers you the chance to immerse yourself in everything Italy has to offer. Cruises depart from several ports around the country, including Civitavecchia, the gateway port to Rome. A cruise to another of Italy's famous cities takes to one of the most romantic in Europe.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the tourist traps of Venice by taking a cruise on a hotel barge in the Lagoon. You get to see Venice's main attractions and some lesser known ones. The route is a mix of canal and river and takes in the outer islands of Torcello, Burano and Murano as well as the beautiful but little known Brenta River where you'll see some splendid villas. Venice will delight you with its hundreds of islands, canals and bridges. The main attractions include St Mark's Square and Basilica, the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto Bridge. Elegant Venetian buildings and palaces peer over the ancient maze of narrow streets and labyrinth of canals that make this a unique city.

Highlights of a trip to the Eternal City of Rome include; the Colosseum, the Pantheon, the Forum Romanum, the Spanish Steps, the Vatican with the huge St Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain and the beautiful Piazza Navona.

Naples, in the south of Italy, is a memorable city and another popular boat cruise destination. With attractions such as the Church of Santa Chiara, the ancient marvels at Pompeii and Herculaneum, and the great Mount Vesuvius. As well as all this the picturesque island of Capri and the exclusive town of Sorrento are only a short boat trip away. For a very special shopping experience during your Italy cruise holiday, stroll through the bustling local markets where you can find anything that you are looking for.

Culture, wine, tranquil beauty, dramatic people and fantastic views-a cruise in Italy has it all! It is a country celebrated for the arts, celebrated for its cuisine and celebrated for its stunning natural scenery and historical backgrounds. As one of the most popular vacation countries in Europe, it caters for all needs. All seasons being good to visit; in summer it is an international playground, with visitors from all continents enjoying Italy's famous resorts; spring comes early and autumn lingers. All in all, Italy has much to offer the discerning traveler looking for an authentic European adventure.
